Tim Grachen wants to make sure his 2008 Toyota Tundra, revamped into 2014 Tundra, is perfect – which is why he’s already shown it twice at past SEMA Shows.

The first time, the Tundra was laced with GoRhino products back in 2013 and the second time was in 2014, when DECKED wanted to feature their newest bed storage system.

Now, he’s gearing up to showcase his truck once again at the 2015 SEMA Show, this time, upping the ante to his customization talents. As an avid off-road enthusiast, he set out to build the ultimate off-road long-travel suspension truck. “I’ve always had bracket style lifted trucks, which can’t exactly do what this truck will be able to do once it’s all finished up,” he admits. “I’ll be able to do plenty of off-road excursions, while still showcasing it at different shows.”

Nicknamed “Project Silver Bullet,” Grachen wanted something flashy, but not over the top. The initial design for the truck was very basic when he first thought of it after the 2014 SEMA Show was over, but as months passed, he continued to switch things up to create the perfect blend of function and style. “The final design is completely different and for the better in my eyes,” he adds. “There have been many long-travel off-road Tundras that have been built over the years, so I did a lot of research on exactly what I wanted and what would be the best products to accomplish that look.”

In order to make perform out on the trails, Grachen opted for the completely new Camburg long-travel suspension, complete with 8” Fox DSC 2.5 coil-overs, 8” 2.5 piggyback triple bypasses, and 2.5 bump stops in front; while out back there’s Fox 16” 3.0 piggyback triple bypasses and 2.5 bump stops. Atlas SU1 spring under leaf packs round out suspension mods, while a set of tough 17x8.5 BMF DRT Pro Series wheels satin black with holes painted satin silver and wrapped in some 37X12.50R17 General Grabber Tires allow for a perfect dual purpose ride on-and off-road (with two spares in the bed rack just in case anything happens while having fun on the trails).

Despite being a 2008, it features the modern look of a 2014 Toyota Tundra thanks to a one-of-a-kind fiberglass fender flares conversion by McNeil Racing. An RK Sport Ram Air Hood, Royalty Core RCD custom-made grille with two 11.5” Vision X XPI light bars, and N-Fab RDS front bumper with three 11.5” Vision X XPR Light bars and rock rails add to its undaunted exterior. Inside, the dark red Roadwire leather with black diamond stitching seats is one of Grachen favorite additions, along with the Roadwire heated front seats, custom-wrapped center console and one-off leather stitched headliner and pillars in the same hue.

The build took eight months to complete and NBQ Motorsports in Stanton, CA helped build the truck, but it wasn’t without it’s share of challenges. “We did face many different challenges since the truck was converted from a 2008 Tundra to a 2014 Tundra front end, using the McNeil Racing fiberglass kit,” he mentions. “But the biggest issue that held up the build was finding out that the stock driveshaft was going to have to be replaced because it was too long. That hit us by surprise and delayed the completion of the suspension by two weeks while Powertrain Industries in Whittier, CA built me a new driveline front to rear and new center bearing."

Having already created a buzz with his previous renditions of the truck, Grachen has steadily garnered tons of attention on this project, with many waiting to see it fully finished. “I’m blown away at the final outcome of this truck. It came out exactly as I had rendered it and the craftsmanship that went into it to get it finished in time is remarkable.”

Silver Bullet will attend multiple shows prior to SEMA 2015 and will also attend multiple shows during 2016 to flex its off-road prowess (which Grachen mentions is without a doubt possible). “The best thing about this build was being able to work with so many different people. It truly was an honor to work with so many talented people having the same passion as I do to get this truck to where it is today. I also want to thank all my sponsors for supporting this build from beginning to end.”
